About
My name is Ryan Chan, and when I was a kid, I loved going to the movies because I would get whisked away to places I’d never experienced filled with characters I could only have imagined.
I thought movies were magic… and I still do.
Editing feature films that use larger-than-life canvases to tell intimate character-driven stories has been the sandbox that I’ve been playing in for most of my career.
I’m an Emmy-winning Film and Television Editor that got my dream opportunity in 2003, when I was hired as an Assistant Editor on Robert Zemeckis’ The Polar Express. I went on to collaborate with Mr. Zemeckis on 9 feature films over a span of 20 years, editing on Welcome to Marwen in 2017, The Witches in 2020, and Here, which premieres later in 2024.
I’ve been working for two decades with a Director that loves to experiment with the latest technology, and the lesson that I’ve learned is that the story and characters always come first.
Looking back, I’ve spent my editing career helping Directors and Producers by using every trick up my sleeve to tell their stories. Just like magic.
